Who we are

Information the app handles

Location

If you grant permission, the app uses your precise location to find nearby venues and calculate distance. Search coordinates are sent through our Cloudflare service to Google Places to return results. You can instead search using a city or postcode. Search requests and results may be cached briefly by our service, with search coordinates included in the cache key. Manual location searches also use Apple’s geocoding service to resolve a city or postcode. The app does not request background location access.

When you choose to check in, the app stores the venue location, your check-in coordinates, GPS accuracy, distance from the venue and check-in time in your synchronised collection. This is used to verify that you are physically near the venue. Location used only for an ordinary nearby search is not added to your collection.

Account information

If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple account identifier and, where Apple provides them, your name and email address. If you choose Hide My Email, we receive Apple’s relay address. We use this information to create and secure your account and synchronise your collection.

Collection and community contributions

We store visited venues, check-in information, collection statistics, achievements, venue approvals, venue flags, and related timestamps. Venue approvals and aggregate community signals may affect results shown to other users, but we do not display your name, email address or precise check-in coordinates publicly.

Purchases

Apple processes purchases and payment information. The app receives product, transaction and entitlement information needed to unlock Premium and restore purchases. We do not receive your full card details.

Local app storage

The app stores settings, favourites, cached search results, venue details, collection snapshots and a secure session token on your device. iOS may include app data in device backups according to your Apple settings.

Support messages

If you contact us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to answer your enquiry, investigate problems and handle privacy requests. Please avoid sending passwords, payment details or precise location information.

Website analytics

Optional website analytics stay off until you choose Allow analytics. You can decline or change your choice using Analytics choices at the foot of every page. We also honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. When you allow analytics, our own service hosted on Cloudflare creates random browser and session identifiers and records page paths, page titles, broad referrer information and selected button clicks. The analytics code blocks form fields, search text, full URLs and common personal-data fields from event properties. These identifiers distinguish browsers and sessions; they are not your name or Apple account identifier, but they should not be treated as a guarantee of anonymity. Hosting and network providers may still process technical information such as IP addresses in ordinary server logs. The browser identifier is stored in local storage, and the session identifier in session storage. We do not use these events to track you across other companies’ apps and websites for advertising.

How we use information

• Provide venue search, directions, filtering and location-based features.
• Create accounts and synchronise collections and achievements.
• Verify check-ins and reduce fraudulent or remote check-ins.
• Moderate venue classifications using community approvals and flags.
• Provide Premium entitlements and purchase restoration.
• Measure reliability and improve the app and website.
• Protect users, investigate misuse and comply with legal obligations.

Our grounds for processing

We process account, collection and purchase information to provide the services you request. Optional website analytics depend on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For location, you control access through iOS permissions and can use manual city search instead. We rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure, responding to enquiries and moderating misuse, and on legal obligations where we must retain or disclose information. Where applicable, you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.

Service providers

• Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and platform services.
• Cloudflare hosts our application service and account database.
• Google supplies venue search results, details, ratings and photos through Google Places. The website also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which involves a request from your browser to Google.
• Vercel hosts this website.

These providers may process information in countries outside your own and apply their own privacy terms.

Retention and deletion

Account and collection information is retained while your account remains active. You can delete individual visited venues in the app. You can delete the entire account from Settings while signed in; this deletes the account, sessions, synchronised collection, achievements, approvals and flags from our active account database. The local collection snapshot and session token are also cleared. Locally saved favourites, search caches and settings are separate from your account and may remain on the device. Infrastructure backups and security logs may persist for a limited period before routine deletion.

Raw website analytics events are deleted by a daily retention job once they are more than 120 days old. Daily totals, such as page-view and session counts without browser or session identifiers, may be kept longer to compare overall usage. Support correspondence is kept while an enquiry remains open and afterwards only where needed to resolve a continuing dispute, protect the service or meet a legal obligation. We assess deletion requests against these purposes rather than retaining correspondence indefinitely. You can clear the site’s browser and session identifiers through your browser’s site-data controls. Turning analytics off stops future analytics events and clears these identifiers. It does not erase events already received. We ask for your choice again after six months; analytics stay off until you consent again. Contact us if you want to request deletion of earlier events.

Your choices and rights

You can deny or revoke location access, use manual city search, sign out, remove collection entries, delete your account and manage subscriptions through Apple. You can raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or your local data protection authority. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal information. Contact us to make a request using the steps on our support page. Revoking location access stops future location access by the app; it does not erase check-ins already saved. Account deletion does not cancel an App Store subscription.

Children

Dive Bar Finder is intended for adults of legal drinking age. Its current App Store rating is 18+ in most regions, with regional exceptions. Devices running operating systems earlier than version 26 may show the older 17+ rating. The App Store rating does not override local drinking-age laws or venue entry rules. The service is not directed to children.

Security

We use HTTPS, hashed session tokens, Apple identity-token verification and access controls designed to protect account data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app, website or service providers change. The effective date above shows the latest revision. Material changes will be presented through an appropriate channel.
